Russian Visa accord for Swiss diplomats

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed accords with the Swiss government, reaching bilateral agreements on Swiss and Russian visa regulations for diplomats.

As well as the Russian visa and Switzerland visa agreements there were also talks of free-trade agreements in the future during President Medvedev's two-day visit, as well as some backing from the Russian leader for Switzerland’s banking confidentiality system.

The two countries have strong trade ties, with Switzerland exporting to Russia about 3 billion francs (£1.80 billion) worth of goods.

Both the Russian and Swiss governments have called the trip as a sign of strengthening bilateral relations, particularly as Bern has been involved in diplomatic efforts since the war between Georgia and Russia last year, and represents Tbilisi in Moscow and vice versa.
