A new Canadian Government website aimed at attracting prospective migrants to Canada and helping them to navigate the visa application process has been receiving a high visitor rate in its opening weeks.

The 'come to Canada wizard' has been attracting a lot of internet traffic, indicating that demand for Canadian immigration is high.

The 'come to Canada wizard' - an online platform for Canada visa application information - has been attracting considerable traffic since its launch in August 2011. Recently released statistics show that the site received 100,000 visits in the first three weeks of operation.

Of this traffic, 80% has been found to be from outside Canada, indicating that interest in Canadian immigration is high. The figures follow the revelation that the waiting list for prospective migrants to Canada recently reached one million names.

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said that the website is mutually beneficial and will help to alleviate the backlog of demand.

"It (the website) demonstrates how Citizenship and Immigration Canada is creating a responsive and efficient immigration system that benefits applicants, immigrants and Canadians alike," he said.

"At this rate, we can expect more than a million users to benefit from the website by this time next year".
