Australian cricketer denied Indian visa for tournament

A Pakistan-born Australian cricketer has been denied an Indian visa for September's Champions League Twenty20 tournament.

Usman Khawaja is a batsman for the Australian national cricket team, but he believes his application for an Indian visa to compete in the Twenty20 tournament was denied due to his country of birth being Pakistan.

He spoke of his frustrations on Twitter, saying "Indian visa department need to sort their issues out. Refusing to let me travel to India as an Australian, because I wasn't born here. Wow."

Cricket Australia (CA) have confirmed that Khawaja’s visa application is currently being held up by Indian High Commission officials, but expressed confidence that his visa would be approved in time for the tournament, which begins on September 23.
