HSMP Visa: Highly Skilled Migrant Programme

HSMP holders can come to or remain in the UK to work or establish a business, without having to have a pre-approved job offer or sponsor. The HSMP route is therefore very attractive to skilled people from outside of the European Economic Area who wish to work in the UK without restrictions.

Please note: All skilled workers from India must now apply for skilled migration through Tier 1 General Skilled Migration.

Basic HSMP Requirements

The main requirement when applying for an HSMP visa is to score 75 points in the points test.

HSMP Visa Conditions

A successful applicant is given 24 months to live and work in the UK. After this you may then apply for a further 3 years. After 5 years you may then be eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain, also known as Permanent Residency.

The UK Home Office recently announced that around 50% of all HSMP applications they recieve fail due to the application being incomplete.
