Perth top choice for travellers on Australian visa travellers

Australia has recently been named as a top tourist destination, with six of the country's cities coming in the top 20 in the world for highest hotel occupancy rates, according to a Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu report. Perth came top of the list of cities which people stay in, with many visitors to the city travelling on an Australian travel visa.

The other Australian cities in the top 20 were Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Cairns, all of which benefited from visitors on an ETA visa. In addition, world tourist arrivals rose by six per cent which was attributed to low-cost airlines and the cheaper cost of travelling.

Ian Breedon, a partner at Deloitte, said lower travel costs will "push up the demand for more hotel space in Australia. It will bring to our shores many more visitors, especially from Asia".

The Asia-Pacific region had the largest growth in arrivals last year, rising by ten per cent on the previous year. Last week it was predicted that the Australian tourism industry will benefit from people coming to the country for health holidays.
