Australian immigration still the popular choice for Brits moving abroad

Australian immigration is the second most popular destination for British migrants leaving the UK, reports Monsters and Critics. According to the website, 23,000 British people moved to Australia last year, with the country only standing behind Spain as the most popular choice for UK citizens seeking a new life abroad.

Part of the country's appeal to British residents is the huge Australian demand for skilled workers, making the likelihood of finding employment Down Under very high for UK professionals. "There are skilled vacancies in all states and territories in more than 90 occupations," explained Australia's Immigration Minister, Chris Evans, at the start of an Australia Needs Skills campaign which aims to attract people of all skilled professions to Australian immigration. People interested in moving down under can check if their skills are needed there through the Australia Migration Occupation in Demand List (MODL). Policemen are among the professionals required in Australia, with the state government in Adelaide announcing it wants to recruit 200 officers from Britain. Other professions on the Australia MODL include accountants, architects and civil engineers.

Australia needs skilled workers: Anyone applying for an Australian visa should begin by completing the Australian Visa Bureau's online Australian visa application to see if they meet the Australian visa requirements.
