United States Consul seeks to reassure Saudi US Visa applicants

The US Consul General in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has said his office was making all efforts to speed up US student visa applications, appealing for patience while processing times return to normal.

US Consul General Thomas Duffy made the US Visa comments while visiting the southern Asir province.

Mr Duffy said families of US diplomats, including dependents of the consulate staff who had gone back to their country after the December 2004 attack on the US Consulate in Jeddah that killed five local employees, have started returning to the Kingdom and processing times should improve shortly.

Mr Duffy advised US Visa applications be made at least two months before their intended travel date so that there is sufficient time for processing.

The Consul General also visited Asir Govenor Prince Faisal bin Khaled to discuss ways to improve relations between the two countries, and discussed investment opportunities in sectors such as mining, health, tourism and education in the province at a reception at the Abha Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
