Immigration into America: Parents

Parents of American citizens qualify for immigration into America if they, and their child, meet the basic requirements for migration.

In the case of parent migration, the child (the American citizen) is the person who petitions the USCIS on behalf of their foreign parent. Lawful permanent residents may not petition to bring their parents into America.

To qualify for migration as a parent:

Once the USCIS has approved the Immigrant Visa petition, the parent will need to either complete their visa processing at an American consulate or embassy abroad or apply to adjust their status to a lawful permanent resident if in America.

A separate application for immigration must be filed for each parent wishing to join their child in America, although it should be noted an application does not include any minor children the parents are responsible for at the time of application.
