UK Unmarried Partners Visa

People who have been in a genuine relationship with a UK citizen or permanent resident are able to apply for an unmarried partner visa if they meet certain requirements. This visa option is open to both heterosexual and same sex relationships. Dependent children can also be included in any such applications.

Unmarried Partner Visa Requirements

• The sponsor and the applicant must be have lived together in a relationship 'akin to marriage' for at least 2 years.
• They must have met each other.
• They must intend to continue to live together permanently.
• The applicant must be able to support him/herself, or be supported by their partner, without access to public funds.
• There must be adequate accommodation in place .

Conditions Of the Visa

• Applicants who have been in the relationship for less than 4 years will be given a 2 year visa to live and work in the UK, after which, if the relationship is still in place, they could apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).
• Applicants who have lived together for 4 years or more with their sponsor outside the UK before applying to enter on a unmarried partner visa, may be granted Indefinite Leave to Remain straight away
