UK immigration fees to rise in April
The Minister of State for Borders and Immigration, Phil Woolas, has laid regulations in Parliament for the primary fees for some UK immigration and nationality services to be increased in April.
The government reviews the UK immigration fees on a regular basis and makes appropriate changes as necessary, and Mr Woolas said it was fair that those who benefit from the immigration system should help fund it.
A new UK Visa service aimed at foreign footballers and international businessmen will also be available, allowing a personalised visa renewal service at a cost of £15,000.
As part of the personalised visa renewal service, officials from the UK Border Agency will visit highly skilled migrants at their office or home to go through immigration documents, take the new biometrics and fingerprints, and provide an on-the-spot visa decision. Only 50 appointments for this service will be available for the pilot 12 months.
Some Ministers are also almost doubling the fees for migrants who apply to bring elderly parents from abroad to live with them to more than £1,900 and are to introduce a separate 10 per cent charge for every child of a migrant who is already in Britain who wants to extend their family’s stay.
Phil Woolas, Immigration Minister, defended the big increases in fees to be introduced in April, saying it was fair that those who benefit from the immigration system should help fund it.
The fee increases include:
