Canada may reduce visa processing time to encourage immigration

Canada is continuing to encourage highly-skilled people to immigrate to the country. One of the initiatives is to cut the processing time for visa applications of people with particular skills, by allowing them to effectively 'jump the queue'. The processing time for applications has risen by 20 per cent in the past four years, due to the large volume of people requesting to enter the country. John Winter, president and chief executive officer of the BC Chamber of Commerce, said: "Our economy depends on immigration, and always has."

In addition, the Canadian government has begun encouraging students to stay in the country, by offering good salaries and benefits. They hope that more students who choose the country to study in, will opt to stay and live and work there. A recent survey by Manpower Canada revealed that employers are finding it increasingly hard to find workers in the country, which is good news for people considering Canadian immigration.

Canada welcomes new immigrants: The Canadian Visa Bureau can assist skilled workers interested in Canadian immigration. More information on Canadian visas is available on the website. Anyone applying for a Canadian visa should begin by completing the online Canadian visa application to see if they meet the legislative requirements.
