A Canadian immigration spokeswoman has said Canada has no intention of reintroducing Canadian visas for Hungarian citizens, despite many reports to the contrary.
"The government of Canada has no plans to impose a visa on Hungary at this time," said Kelli Fraser, a spokeswoman for the Canadian department of Citizenship and Immigration.
Ms Fraser also rejected reports that the Canadian Government had threatened to reintroduce the Canadian visa requirement, which was dropped in March last year, if Budapest failed to stop political asylum seekers making their way to Canada.
In July, Ottawa imposed Canadian visa requirements for Mexican and the Czech Republic nationals after refugee claims, mostly considered unfounded, from these two countries soared.
