A report has looked into the keys to success in attracting immigrants with a Canadian visa.
The report Immigrant-Friendly Communities: Making Immigration Work for Employers and Other Stakeholders by Vadim Kukushkin examined four small communities in Canada and how they succeeded in attracting and retaining immigrants through a collaborative approach involving employers and many different community stakeholders.
The report looked at the value migrants with Canadian visas bring to small communities, and the role that federal, provincial and municipal policies can play in attracting immigrants.
Finally, the report identified the keys to success for making immigration work in small communities, including one example of the benefit of Canadian visas in attracting immigrants to the town of Yellowknife.
Some 12.7 per cent of the town’s population consists of immigrants from China, Mauritius, Indian, Philippines and Vietnam, mostly employed within the region’s diamond industry on a Canadian visa.
