More skilled work vacancies in Australia for marketing, advertising and printing

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations released a report yesterday concerning the skilled work vacancy index for specific Australian occupations.

According to the Australian, the overall skilled work vacancy index dropped over the past year by 17.1 per cent to 83.4.  Only two of the 18 occupational groups indexed by the Department recorded an increase in skilled vacancies: advertising and marketing and printing.

The fall in vacancies in skilled occupations has been attributed to record levels of Australian immigration.  Yesterday, the Australian Bureau of Statistics also released a report that shows over 1,000 foreign nationals migrate to Australia everyday.  It has been the Australian government’s policy to encourage record numbers of migration so that skills shortages in the workforce can me met.

The Australian government provides an up-to-date Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) that details the skills the country needs resourced from overseas labour markets.  All those wishing to migrate to Australia under the Australian Skilled Migration programme must be able to prove their skills in at least one of the occupations from this list.
