Pilots added to MODL list to appeal to Australian visa holders

Pilots are being added to Australia's Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) as the sector sees skills shortages. Following this move the government is set to launch a new aviation training package to get more people into the industry.

Included in the new package is a set of qualifications which will make it easier for trainees to enter the piloting industry and make a career in it. The scheme has also been set up specifically to make it easier for overseas students to enter the industry and train on Australian visas.

Anthony Albanese, the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, said: "The new package will be an important resource for trainers, registered training organisations, potential trainees and those already in the aviation industry." Both commercial plane and helicopter pilots are being added to the in-demand list. Another new scheme has seen success lately, in the construction industry on the Sunshine Coast.

Australia needs skilled workers: Anyone applying for an Australian visa should begin by completing the Australian Visa Bureau's online Australian visa application to see if they meet the Australian visa requirements.
