Meet a new £10 Pom on an Australian Working Holiday

Marianne McPhee camped for two days outside STA Travel in Victoria, London, and was one of the lucky gappers who scored a £10 ticket to Australia.

Earlier this year the agency offered only 150 £10 fares from selected offices, and MS McPhee determinedly pitched her tent outside the Victoria office to get one of the sought-after tickets.

Now, Ms McPhee is living in Land Cove, Sydney, and plans to work in the city over the summer before working in other parts of the country during her working holiday year.

“Camping on the streets of London was an experience,” she told the North Shore Times.

“I still can’t really believe it has happened. I just bought a flight to Australia for £10!”

Tourism Australia UK and Europe general manager Rodney Harrex said the promotion was to raise awareness of the working holiday visa among young Britons.

This Australia Visa allows the holder to travel and work within Australia for up to 12 months, and it is possible to renew the visa for a second year provided the applicant completes three months' work as a specified worker in a regional area.
