Victoria's tourism numbers hit 15-year high

The number of international tourists in Australia's Victorian state has hit a 15-year high, reports ABC News.

A new report shows that Victoria has attracted more tourists on an Australian holiday visa this year than any other years over the past one and a half decades.

The Victorian government has said the number of visitors in the state in this year to September has increased by 102 per cent since the same period in 2007.

The Tourism Minister has said the news is fantastic, particularly in light of the global slowdown and fears of an economic recession.

"That's not only good for Victoria, but when we compare to the rest of Australia, we've really been outperforming the national average, and more importantly, beating some of our interstate rivals," he told the news provider.
