The US Embassy has offered advice to visa applicants

In an interview with the Malaysian news media, Deputy-consul Frank Tu of the American embassy in Kuala Lumpur has offered advice to potential applicants for an American visa.

"Please do not leave your visa application to the last minute," he said.

"Applicants should not purchase plane tickets or make irrevocable plans befpre obtaining a visa," he added.

As well as stipulating that travel plans should be dependent on the granting of a visa, Mr Tu said that applicants should arrive at appointments with the embassy at the precise time allocated.  Failure to arrive at the designated time may result in visa application delays, he warned.

Mr Tu also urged applicants to be honest in their application documents and during the interview process.

"If you are unemployed, please explain why," Tu offered as an example. "If officers feel that something is wrong, they will reject the application".
