London (as well as Glasgow, Manchester and other major cities) has a huge public transport infrastructure that can get you most places within the city, more or less 24 hours per day. Visit Transport for London for more details, ticket prices, maps and journey planners.
The tube, although expensive, is the best way to get around London in most cases.
There are day buses, and night buses available in London. These are very regular, you should never have to wait more than 15 minutes for a bus, much less in central London.
London has a vast number of licensed black Taxis (Cabs). Just hail one in the street when you see it has its yellow light on and tell the driver your destination. You must pay at the end of the journey.
