Arriving in the UK

Arrivals by sea are possible from Spain, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Major UK seaports include Hull, Dover, Folkestone, Portsmouth, Newhaven, Poole and Plymouth

Getting Around the UK

Trains

There is an extensive National Rail network in the UK which is reliable and fast, although it can be expensive on longer journeys.

Coach Travel

National Express is the major coach carrier in the UK. Other options include Mega Bus.

Car Hire

Getting around the UK by car is easy on its vast motorway and road network. If you are visiting the UK you may wish to hire a car.

It is a good idea to buy a car if you plan to make the UK your home and don't intend to live in London (where the public transport system means that cars are not needed in most cases).

Getting Around in London

London (as well as Glasgow, Manchester and other major cities) has a huge public transport infrastructure that can get you most places within the city, more or less 24 hours per day. Visit Transport for London for more details, ticket prices, maps and journey planners.

The Underground (The Tube)

The tube, although expensive, is the best way to get around London in most cases.

Buses

There are day buses, and night buses available in London. These are very regular, you should never have to wait more than 15 minutes for a bus, much less in central London.

Taxis

London has a vast number of licensed black taxis (Cabs). Just hail one in the street when you see it has its yellow light on and tell the driver your destination. You must pay at the end of the journey.
