UK Immigration temporarily closes New Zealand biometric enrolment centre

The UK Border Agency has announced that the New Zealand biometric enrolment centre will temporarily close due to the recent earthquake in Christchurch.

The UK biometric enrolment centre in New Zealand will be temporarily closed, and UK Visa applicants with appointments will be contacted.

The UK immigration will be closed until further notice to ensure the safety of customers and staff. All UK Visa  applicants with biometric appointments this week will be contacted in the next two days by phone or email. For further guidance please email EC.Enquiries@fco.gov.uk.

A state of emergency has been declared after a powerful earthquake struck Christchurch yesterday, causing widespread damage and the deaths of 65 people.

The New Zealand immigration centre in Christchurch is closed until further notice.

The 6.3 magnitude quake - classed by experts as an aftershock to last September's 7.1 quake - struck at 12.51pm New Zealand time, during the busy time of the day.
