UK Visa issues delay Willie Mason’s Hull debut

The English Super League season kicks-off in less than nine days, but Australian player Willie Mason remains stuck in Sydney because of UK Visa issues.

UK Visa

Willie Mason cannot join his new club Hull KR until his UK Visa is approved.

Mason was scheduled to arrive at his new club Hull KR at the start of last month, but because his UK Visa is yet to be approved he faces a slim chance of featuring in the first local game against Hull FC next week.

Mason applied for a visa with a Tongan passport - his mother is Tongan - to secure exemption for the overseas quota with English teams.
It is not clear when his UK Visa will be approved.

Hull KR coach Justin Morgan said he would meet with chief executive Mike Smith this week about the issue and when they could reasonably expect Mason to arrive.

Mason is best remembered in the UK for his battle with English international Stuart Fielden, who plays with Wigan.
