Canada Visa restrictions could be lifted for Czechs
The Canadian government is investigation weather the country can lift its Canadian visa restrictions on the Czech Republic, without opening up a new increase in Roma refugee claims.
Experts will be sent to Prague later this month to research how the Czech authorities protect minorities and assist their integration.
Alykhan Velshi, spokesman for Immigration Minister Jason Kenney, confirmed that the experts will participate in a five-day "information gathering visit" starting 31 January.
Canada Visa restrictions for tourists and those transiting through the country were re-imposed in 2009 after a two year break because of the large numbers of Roma arriving in Canada claiming persecution in the Czech Republic.
The large number of migrants caused a strain on social services in various regions in Canada.
