Canadian immigration department releases online resource for newcomers

The Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney released last Friday a new online resource for migrants to Canada. The resource is designed to help those skilled workers wanting to move to Canada or have already moved permanently to settle easily into the workforce and lifestyle.

The online resource is designed for those emigrating to Canada, by providing guidelines on how to find work in Canada and start contributing to the Canadian economy by using their skills.

"Planning to work in Canada?  An essential workbook for newcomers" contains systematic instructions starting from having one's skills assessed and credited to advice on how to look for employment in alternative professions if preferred employment proves to be difficult.

"Each year, thousands of skilled newcomers arrive in Canada.  It is in their interest, and in Canada’s interest, to do everything we can to help them put their skills to work here as soon as possible once they arrive," said Minister Kenney.

"This is one more tool to help them obtain the greatest benefit from their experience and education."

The free booklet will contain information about living in Canada, organisations to help with settlement, Canada's official languages, how to find a job in Canada, how to get the right Canadian credentials for your skills, which documents you would need to secure work in Canada, and education credentials.

The initiative is part of Canada's Economic Action Plan, which is working to create a common and systematic approach to recognising foreign skills in Canada so that skilled workers can find employment in their specific profession.
