Canadian immigration minister calls refugee reform a win-win situation

Revised legislation to reform Canada’s refugee system, Bill C-11, is moving closer to becoming law.

Canadian Immigration Minister Jason Kenney is hailing the legislation as a win-win deal with opposition parties to reform Canada's refugee system with very good prospects of  being passed before 1 July.

The Minister Kenney noted Canadian immigration critic Olivia Chow and the Bloc Québécois's immigration critic, Thierry St-Cyr, for their diligence while working with the government to revise the bill.

The bill seeks to limit the number of fraudulent applications and reduce the backlog of the refugee system.

In a separate news conference, the Chow said Canada "will finally get a refugee reform package that is both fast and fair."
