Canada pledges over ten million dollars for new settlers in Mississauga and Brampton

The Minister of Citizenship and Immigration (CIC) Diane Finley announced the Canadian Government is funding settlement and integration services for immigrants in Mississauga and Brampton.

The $11.1 million funding will go towards improving settlement services to be used by 6,200 newcomers to Mississauga and Brampton.  The services help new arrivals with language training, community resources, advice, employment services, and job search workshops.

The funding will also focus on improving youth services, including orientation services, mentorship opportunities, and recreational activities, as well as a centre for youth employment, counselling, information and career planning.

"The Government of Canada is committed to helping new families to Canada succeed," said Wajid Khan, Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Streetsville. "With this funding, newcomers, including youth, will be able to better integrate into their communities and have more opportunities to find work for themselves and their families. In total, since 2006, the Government of Canada has begun investing an additional $1.4 billion over five years in settlement funding across the country."

People who move to Canada can also use the Foreign Credentials Referral Office (FCRO) to get their internationally developed and recognised skills assessed and transferred to Canadian standards more quickly.  There are currently 320 FCRO offices around the country working to help Canadian immigrants use their skills in Canada.
