An issues paper of Australian Student Visa legislation has been released, identifying key areas the Government should improve.

Submissions are now open to a review on the Australia Student Visa legislation.

The issues paper, part of a full review commissioned last month by the Australian Government and headed by former Liberal MP Bruce Baird, identified key areas in the education system and the experiences for international students studying in Australia with an Australian Student Visa.

Mr Baird  has called for submissions in response to the issues paper to gather input from international students currently on an Australian Student Visa or those planning to study in Australia as well as other stakeholders, on what is working and what could be improved to support Australia’s international education and training sector.

“This review is an opportunity for the sector to take stock, look at what is working, what could be improved,” Mr Baird said.

Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Julia Gillard welcomed the release of the issues paper and encouraged all stakeholders to read it and make submissions. The full results of the review are expected in early 2010.
