New Zealand Working Holiday Visa now available to Philippines citizens

As of 5 February, citizens of the Philippines aged between 18 and 30 became eligible to apply for a New Zealand Working Holiday Visa, giving them the opportunity to live and work in NZ for up to a year.

Filipinos can now go to New Zealand to live and work for up to a year with their inclusion in New Zealand's Working Holiday Visa programme.

Under this scheme, 100 places will be available annually for young people from the Philippines wanting to stay in New Zealand for up to 12 months. Applications were accepted as of 5 February, 2014 for the first time, though this year's quota was filled in a very short time.

Additionally, a reciprocal working holiday scheme will allow 100 New Zealanders to holiday and work in the Philippines. Mr McCully says the scheme, open to people aged 18-30, is an excellent opportunity for young New Zealanders to experience another culture.

“The Filipino community, at over 37,000 strong, is now the largest of all ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) communities in New Zealand.

“This working holiday scheme will further promote the important links between our two countries,” said Mr McCully.
