Canadian economy to be led by Alberta

The Canadian economy has posted the best quarterly growth in over a decade and added new jobs in eight of the last 10 months, and a new report has found that Alberta will lead national growth next year.

The Canadian economy has show positive signs, with Alberta expected to lead national growth.

Positive economic data announced by the Canadina Finance Minister Jim Flaherty also included the 6.1 per cent annualized gross domestic product gain in January through March.

The report released on Thursday by TD Economics said the province's real gross domestic product growth will be 3.5 per cent in 2011 after a 2.8 per cent hike in 2010. It forecasts real GDP growth of 3.6 per cent this year and 2.5 per cent in 2011 for the entire Canadian economy.

In 2009, Canada's economy contracted by 2.9 per cent and Alberta’s economy contracted by an estimated 4.8 per cent.

On Tuesday, a report released by Scotiabank said Alberta would lead the country in economic growth this year at 4.1 per cent followed by 3.4 per cent GDP growth in 2011.

Scotiabank forecast Canadian economic growth at 3.6 per cent this year and 2.7 per cent next year.
