Businesses need to get behind Canadian immigration for success

For immigration to succeed in Canada both businesses and the community need to get behind the idea, according to a news source. Humphrey Sheehan, Executive Director of New Brunswick's population growth secretariat, told the Miramichi Leader it is essential people support Canadian immigration to make it worthwhile for all involved.

"We certainly need people. We don't want them to come here and then just go on to Toronto or Montreal or Vancouver. We have to retain them," he said. Following a budget increase to AUS$5 million this year, Mr Sheehan said more money would be invested in multicultural associations in the area.

However, he also told the newspaper that any moves made by the Federal and State Government need to be supported by the community to "help in the retention of newcomers". According to Statistics Canada, there were more than 26,000 Canadian immigrants in New Brunswick in 2006, with the area of Miramichi attracting just 520.
Mr Sheehan thinks this number can be improved and with combined efforts and the right resources Canadian immigration can reach smaller areas like Miramachi. A poll by Nano Research for Policy Options Magazine found Canadian people back immigration if it fills skills shortages, reports the Vancouver Sun.

Canada welcomes new immigrants: The Canadian Visa Bureau can assist skilled workers interested in Canadian immigration. More information on Canadian visas is available on the website. Anyone applying for a Canadian visa should begin by completing the online Canadian visa application to see if they meet the legislative requirements.
