UK Immigration searched two properties in George Williams Way and East Hill, Colchester, on Tuesday, arresting the three women and closing down both premises.

A 35-year-old from Thailand and a Malaysian, 49, were arrested at the first address after it was discovered they had overstayed their UK Visas. A 46-year-old from China was in breach of a visitor's visa.

Arrangements are being made to remove the women from the country, the Border Agency said.

The arrests were part of “Operation Meerkat”.

Detective Constable Adam Rogers, seconded to the UK Border Agency’s immigration team from Essex Police, said: “These arrests were made in direct response to local concerns and we thank residents for contacting us.”
