US Consul General Stephen G Fakan held a reception for leading businessmen at his residence on Thursday to mark the re-opening of the American visa section.

The US Consul General said the re-opening was a firm indication that the United States was there to stay as a partner, friend and an ally of Pakistan.

The first American visa for business purposes was issued out of the Consulate in Karachi on Thursday, and other American visas will also begin to be issued in summer when the new US Consulate compound will be opened.

The last American visa was issued from the consulate in 1995.
