UK immigration 'adds to success of economy'

According to a survey by the Chamber of Commerce on UK immigration, 30 per cent of companies said that they employ or have employed migrant workers. Mr Stopforth commented: "The comparative success of the north west economy in recent years has been partly due to the influx of willing migrant workers from eastern Europe." He added that many local employers that the Chamber of Commerce spoke to said that they took on migrant workers because of "a shortage of skilled workers in the north-west and because they have a positive work ethic". The Liverpool Chamber of Commerce was set up in 1850 in order to protect the interests of businesses in the city.
