Thousands rally for urgent American immigration reform

Rallies were held in Las Vegas, Seattle, and Chicago, following up the large demonstration in Washington last month.

In Las Vegas, demonstrators cheered Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Representative Shelley Berkley who told them they're committed to making American immigration reform a top priority.

Reid told the crowd that there's urgency to pass American immigration reform legislation, which would include border security and a guest worker program for seasonal workers.

Representative Luis Gutierrez has introduced American immigration reform legislation that includes the path to legal status for millions of illegal immigrants.

Proponents believe American immigration reform is a necessary part of economic recovery.

Lawmakers failed to agree in 2006 and 2007 when they last tried to overhaul the immigration system.
