Don Huse, chief executive of the airport, said: "This is about creating a great first impression for New Zealand, and making visitors or kiwis returning home feel more welcome." He added that the airport's new capacity in particular will "reduce bottle-necks and position the airport for further growth". The new facility has 44 immigration passport control areas compared to 32 in the old area, meaning a quicker service for people moving into the country through New Zealand immigration. Auckland International Airport caters for over four million visitors every year.
