Hundreds of Indian from Punjab and Haryana travelled to Chandigarh to submit their UK visa applications at the UK Visa Facilitation Services (VFS) centre.

A VFS spokesperson said the rush for UK visas was due to the change in requirements, which will come into effect on October 1.

“According to the reports that we are getting so far, there is a heavy rush, especially of UK student visa applicants at our centres in the entire northern region. We expect this rush to continue till October 1.”

From October 1, students applying for a UK visa will be required to submit a bank statement showing the full required maintenance money has been in the bank for at least 28 days with their UK visa applications.

“Presently, they can submit the statement after keeping the money in the bank for just one day and this is the main reason for this huge rush,” she said.
