NZ National Party plans for Silver Fern visa

The National Party has released plans of its immigration policy that include the introduction of a new New Zealand visa; the Silver Fern visa.  The Silver Fern visa would allow overseas people with tertiary qualifications entry to New Zealand for a temporary period to seek permanent employment in a highly skilled occupation.  The highly skilled occupation must be in need of overseas workers to fill its positions and high value to the New Zealand economy and the tertiary qualifications of the overseas worker must be recognised by the New Zealand government.

Dr Wayne Mapp, Member of the National Party, also said the Silver Fern visa would work to recruit the right kinds of migrants to the New Zealand economy as it would give preference to immigrants with New Zealand qualifications.  As part of this prospective visa, international students studying in New Zealand will face a lower remuneration for work threshold than those with qualifications from overseas.
