Mr Muir has a strong background in international marketing and competitive business operations, including holding the positions of CEO of The Warehouse and the Executive Chairman of Pumpkin Patch Ltd.

Mr O’Connor is hopeful that Mr Muir will lead Tourism New Zealand into exciting new directions so that the country can maximise from one of its major sources of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and encourage visitors to apply for a New Zealand visa.  Currently, tourism is directly contributing around $7.9 billion to the nation’s annual GDP, while $6.2 billion is generated in indirect value to side-skirting industries, reports New Zealand Herald.

"Greg comes into the role at a time that is challenging for the tourism industry. As international oil and food prices are on the rise, our ability to compete with other countries will depend on delivering a better product than our competitors and marketing that to the rest of the world. As a country we need to rise to the challenge and I am confident that Greg will be a strong leader who will establish a fresh, clear direction for the Board in doing that," the Minister said.
