Nigerian Immigration to install virtual links between NIS offices

NIS spokesperson Epkedeme King said the system would allow offices to share information online, and increase the integrity of the Nigerian immigration system.

"The VPN is a satellite protocol that will link networks in those offices to the NIS headquarters.  It will enable the prompt receipt of information on-line," he said in his interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

"That gesture will be complemented with operational vehicles to be distributed according to the needs of individual commands," he added.

Mr King told the reporter Chukwurah Udeh, the NIS Comptroller-General, had informed his Zonal Coordinators and State Comptrollers they should implement regular security reports to be sent through to NIS headquarters.  Mr Udeh also reminded his NIS officials that maintaining high security of Nigeria's borders and managing immigration well is crucial.

"Udeh told them that their efforts in those aspects would encourage state governments to cooperate with them and even include them in state executive council meetings," Mr King added.
