New Zealand visa waived for Taiwanese visitors

From 30 November, Taiwanese passport holders travelling to New Zealand for less than three months on business, as tourists, to visit friends or relatives or for short-term study will no longer be required to apply for a New Zealand visa before they travel.

The decision has been seen as important to facilitate the growth of the business, trade, tourism, and education links between the two countries.

Taiwan is an important trading partner to New Zealand, and many Taiwanese people come to New Zealand under New Zealand skilled migration, the New Zealand Student Visa scheme or as tourists.

The visa waiver is one of the initiatives the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce proposed at a jobs summit earlier in the year.
The chamber also proposed the removal of the caps on the places available for the New Zealand Working Holiday Visa.
