New Zealand, Vietnam celebrate 35 years of visa, trade and diplomatic ties

New Zealand was one of the first countries that established diplomatic ties with Vietnam after it regained national reunification in 1975, and the two countries have important trade and business ties.

Bilateral relations were elevated to comprehensive partnership during the visit to New Zealand of Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh in 2009.

Vietnam has also become a substantial trade and business partner for New Zealand and it is hoped that there can be similar progress in increasing people to people contact - especially tourism, education, science, and hopefully soon a New Zealand Working Holiday scheme.

Since the beginning of this year, Vietnam and New Zealand have organised a series of activities to celebrate 35 years of their diplomatic relations.
