High earners won’t be subject to annual UK Visa cap

Home Office Minister Damian Green said bankers, lawyers and other professionals earning more than £150,000 will be allowed into the UK, above the monthly limit on skilled workers that will come into effect in April.

Scientists will also be given a "significant advantage" under a system designed to favour sectors experiencing a shortage of skilled staff, Mr Green said.

The Government has been handed tough criticism by business leaders over the UK Visa cap, which will dramatically reduce the number of non-EU nationals permitted to work in the country to around 20,700.

Business leaders have urged that the stringent restrictions on non-EU workers would leave vital sectors short of staff — particularly in health care and for energy infrastructure projects.

Mr Green announced the final criteria for the government UK Visa cap this week, and the annual limit will come into effect on April 6.
