ESTA and Travel Promotion Act to bring visitors to Las Vegas, says authority

The act is a significant legislation for the tourism industry providing a national body to promote US tourism abroad, funded by a nominal $10 fee charged for the ESTA.

The ESTA, or Electronic System for Travel Authorization, is mandatory for visitors from countries currently part of the US Visa Waiver Program.  While not a US tourist visa, an approved ESTA gives an authorization to travel to the US for a short-say visit for the purposes of business or tourism.

The act could add more money into the Las Vegas economy, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor's Authority believes.

Experts say the US will go from spending around $6 million a year in TV, web and print advertising to $100 million to attract more visitors.
