Boy George denied US visa for tour

The Culture Club singer was due to perform at a number of venues across the US, including a charity concert in August. However, despite the singer's hopes, this will now not go ahead.

Boy George, real name George O'Dowd, told the newspaper: "I was really hoping that the issue would be resolved and that some kind soul at the US Visa Office would realise that if the police in the UK placed no restrictions on my movements, that should have been good enough for them."

The US Government has recently introduced a compulsory electronic visa for short-term visitors from selected countries, including the UK. The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) will mean many foreign nationals will not have to apply for a travel visa through other, longer processes and can travel the US for up to 90 days. The ESTA should be applied for at least 72 hours prior to arrival in the US.
