Australia in new visa talks with Malaysia

He met with the Minister for Home Affairs in Malaysia, Dato Seri Syed Hamid bin Syed Jaafar Albar, who together decided on plans to improve Australian immigration. Senator Evans said: "This relationship continues to provide positive results on a broad range of issues, from sharing immigration-related information to detecting people-smuggling networks in the region."

He added that the country has re-launched efforts to work together on reducing the number of people attempting to enter without an Australian visa. The country has also agreed a deal with Malaysia to allow a work and holiday visa to operate, meaning residents can gain employment in both countries. A similar deal has recently been announced between Indonesia and Australia.
