Ontario expands PNP for Canadian migrants
The Ontario Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) has undergone amendments to allow more immigrants to move to Canada under this category.
The new program, called Opportunities Ontario: Provincial Nominee Program, is an extension of the pilot PNP, which allows employers to hire foreign skilled workers and international students under 20 specific categories across the health, education, manufacturing and construction industries.
Under the new program, employers and investors can now hire foreign skilled workers for any managerial, professional, or skilled occupation (listed as skill level A, B, or 0 in the National Occupation Classification).
The new program is expected to draw in 1,000 new people to move to Canada in 2009, which is double the amount accepted under the previous program.
