Incredible India, the official tourism campaign of India, will be launching a month-long campaign in China and other countries during the Olympics in an attempt to attract more tourists to the country, reports The Indian Express.

The Tourism Ministry has organised illuminated graphic advertising campaigns to run in subway stations and busy junctions around Beijing city, as well as newspaper advertisements in the two Chinese newspapers.

The Ministry will also hold an India Evening where tour operators, media and members of the Indian contingent at the Olympic Games will be invited to enjoy Indian culture and cuisine.  They will also organise exhibitions of textiles, photography, and handicrafts.

"The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games have provided an unparalleled opportunity to promote the profile of Incredible India worldwide and showcase India as a tourism destination to a large international audience. We don’t want to miss out on it at any cost," said Tourism Joint Secretary Leena Nandan.

The Minister is also holding talks with tour operators and airline companies to ensure the India-China routes are flying a maximum amount of passengers.

International visitors to India must have an Indian visa to enter the country.  Indian tourist visas are usually valid for up to six months, and the visa holder is not allowed to work under the visa conditions.  For short-stay visits, tourists can also apply for a 15 day transit visa.
