TWES (Training and Work Experience) Work Permits

This permit is intended for those wishing to come to the UK for training or work experience for use back in their home countries.

Requirements

• The training/work experience should be work based learning that builds on skills that the applicant has already been developing.
• The work experience or training role must be in addition to normal staffing requirements for that company (i.e. the role must not be filling a vacancy that a resident worker could fill).
• The permit holder must train/work for a minimum of 30 hours per week and have similar pay and conditions normally offered to a resident worker. The holder should also have sufficient English to carry out the work or training.
• The entry level to qualify is N/SVQ level 3 or equivalent.
• The applicant must have the suitable qualifications, skills and or experience for the proposed training or work experience.
• Unlike other work permits, there is no requirement for the employer to advertise the post for a TWES permit.
• If an applicant wishes to study to the extent that the study would result in a qualification then a student visa should be applied for.

Visa Conditions

A  TWES permit is not supposed to be a step to a permanent stay in the UK - an applicant must always show the intention to, at some point, leave the UK.
