Tier 2 Work Permit for Skilled Workers

Tier 2 work permits are designed to allow skilled workers to come to the UK to fill a temporary gap in the local labour market.

The Tier 2 Skilled Worker category is for people with a job offer in the UK, coming to fill a gap in the UK labour force that cannot be filled by someone already in the country.

For a job to qualify for a Tier 2 Skilled Worker work permit it must meet the following requirements:

• The job must require a qualification of at least an S/NVQ Level 3.
• The compensation offered to the prospective migrant must be appropriate to the job and the local labour market.
• The employer who wishes to employ the prospective migrant must have an Employer Sponsorship Licence.

Successful applicants under the Tier 2 Skilled Worker category will be issued a certificate of sponsorship by their employer.  Once this certificate is received, the applicant can apply for entry clearance to the UK from their home country.

Entry clearance is not guaranteed, even if a certificate of sponsorship has been issued.  All entry clearance applications for the UK are subject to health and security clearance.
