British Embassy ambassador survives bombing in Yemen

The British ambassador to Yemen has survived a suicide bomb attack to his convoy travelling to the British Embassy, situated on a hill overlooking the city.

Yemeni authorities have confirmed that no one from the British Embassy has been killed, and the ambassador Timothy Torlot was unhurt.

The attack adds concerns over Yemen's instability and use as a base by terrorist groups.

The British Embassy is heavily fortified, with sand-bagged machine gun posts guarding its shock-walled entrance.

Mr Torlot, 52, has been ambassador at the British Embassy in Yemen since 2007.
