The final phase of the points-based system's UK Student Visa tier has been implemented by the UK Border Agency, with two major changes for Tier 4 sponsors.

Tier 4 Student Visa

Changes have been made to the Tier 4 visa application process.

Now, all potential Tier 4 students applying from within or outside the UK must use a confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS) in their application, and applications that do not contain a CAS will be refused.

While each education provider may decide a CAS statement format and the method of sending it to their potential students, a statement may contain the:

Pospective students, who have a Tier 4 visa letter issued before 22 February 2010 can no longer use it to apply for a visa and all education providers who have issued a visa letter to a student who is intending to apply to the UK immigration department must replace the visa letter with a CAS.

Education providers also now must report via the sponsorship management system (SMS) on students who have used a CAS in an application to the UK Border Agency.

The changes are part of an ongoing review of the system to ensure legitimate students are able to come to the UK to study.
